Hong Kong

Culture and heritage is what sets Hong Kong apart from the rest of Asia & indeed the world. Hong Kong is a unique fusion of Eastern and Western cultures where the old and the new live side by side. Its incense-filled temples, glass-and-steel skyscrapers and noisy festivals have made Hong Kong the premier tourist destination in Asia.

Vibrant, exciting, bustling, Hong Kong is a behemoth of commerce, culture and fun that certainly does not disappoint. Unsurprisingly, the city offers superb shopping, excellent hotels and non-stop entertainment, but there are also unexpected delights to be found in this vast metropolis. Lying in juxtaposition to the huge urban area are the rice paddies and simple fishing villages in the New Territories, which feel completely out of place within this futuristic city.

Hong Kong’s malls, department stores and designer boutiques offer an amazing contrast to the bustling open-air markets nestled among the towering skyscrapers. Avid shoppers can spend days trawling through the colourful stalls and shops in search of bargains.

Hong Kong’s cuisine is renowned for its exotic fusion of Eastern and Western flavours along with a wide variety of culinary delights. Food is usually reasonably priced, particularly in the Michelin starred Tim Ho Wan restaurant, which offer dishes for about €1.

Hong Kong Island and Kowloon, are an eclectic mix of modern skyscrapers, magnificent colonial buildings and traditional temples. For a tranquil escape from the neon lights of downtown, Hong Kong's 260 outlying islands provide a relaxing getaway from the frenetic city life.

The days truly are what you make them in Hong Kong. Whether you choose to join the masses betting at the horses, enjoying the magic of Hong Kong's very own Disneyland, or taking a relaxing stroll through a beautiful natural setting at one of the stunning country parks, there is something to suit everybody in this surprising city.

Hong Kong Island
There is so much to explore in this urban centre of glass and neon, it would take months to see it all. One essential experience is an unforgettable ride on the Peak Tram, which travels 343 metres above the city yielding some absolutely stunning views of the harbour and the magnificent city skyline.

For a unique dining experience, head to the Jumbo Kingdom floating restaurant. This magnificent restaurant serves sumptuous seafood cuisine in the opulent surroundings of a Chinese Palace.

The Hollywood Road offers some of the finest shopping in the city, with a plethora of antique shops and an open-air curio market crammed along this busy neon-bathed street.

Escape to a Temple
Covering 18,000 square metres and located in a tranquil natural setting remote from the nearby housing estates and the bustle of their streets, the Wong Tai Sin temple is, apart from being an important religious centre, a scenic attraction full of beautifully ornamented traditional buildings. This quintessential Chinese temple makes for a wonderful and relaxing getaway from the fast-paced city life.

Hong Kong Disneyland
Hong Kong Disneyland invites visitors into the legendary fairytale kingdom that celebrates the spirit of fantasy, the world of tomorrow and a forever-young sense of adventure. Familiar characters that have captivated the hearts of generations will welcome you to the happiest place on Earth complete with attractions and rides exclusively designed for Hong Kong.

Giant Buddha/Po Lin Monastery
No trip to Hong Kong would be complete without a visit to the world's tallest, outdoor, seated bronze Buddha which sits serenely atop Ngong Ping plateau amid the spectacular mountain scenery of Lantau Island.
